An Outdoor Co-Op

"There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing." Alfred Wainwright

Nature's Way Co-Op is 100% outdoors-- in all (safe) weather.  This includes rain, snow, heat, and cold.  While there truly is no such thing as bad weather, we want to be prepared and dressed appropriately!  Please see this link for information on how to dress for the not-so-perfect weather days:

How to Dress Your Kids for the Outdoors

Neurodivergent Affirming

What is "neurodivergence?"

Neurodivergence is an umbrella term that generally refers to someone whose neurology varies from what is "typical."  This can include (but is not limited to) Autism, ADHD, tic disorders, learning disorders, and OCD.

What does it mean to be "neurodivergent affirming?"

It is the understanding an unconditional acceptance that many people perceive and interact with the world in different ways.  It's seeing Autism, ADHD, and other neurodiversity as simply a different way of learning and processing.  It also means supporting different learning environments, adapting the ways we teach, and changing our expectations (all of which is usually based on what's "neurotypical") so that neurodivergent learners can learn and grow in the ways that work best for them.  Examples of this include (but again, not limited to): encouraging whatever positions feel most comfortable for learning, allowing fidgeting, not demanding eye contact, and really paying attention to the environments in which our learners thrive.

Anti-Racism

What is "Anti-Racism?"

What does that mean for Nature's Way Co-Op?

  • zero tolerance for racist comments, jokes, or conversations

  • willingness to engage in conversations about race, racial justice, and racism-- with our students, with other families, and between volunteer teachers

  • being intentional in de colonizing our curriculum (ie, learning about diverse artists and musicians)
